Your Opinion Is Needed, What Do You Think? New Paintings to Share..

Hi Art Lovers & Supporters,

I know it has been awhile (Sorry) since I posted but sometimes you have to step back and analyze where you have been and where you want to go.  The artist field is going through a transition.  The influencers are saying that fine artists should do more of their own marketing.  There are fewer galleries still available to represent us many more artists so we must try to sell our work by ourselves. That takes time to research, a learning curve and money!  YIKES!!

And, recently I decided to create products with sections of my art painting images on them so that more people would have the ability to carry art with them throughout their day.  Art has a soothing result on many people so carrying a favorite image on their daily, favorite items could have a profound. I’m toying with the idea of allowing clients interested in a certain section of a particular painting of their choice to order a product that I carry with that selected section designed on it.  But they have to realize that that will take a little additional time for delivery but it will be worth it I think.  Let me know what you think about art on products. Since I will be trying to open a shop soon,  Please…I need the feedback.  I have a lot of designs that I could create with but here are just a couple things I have been toying with:

I also want to share some new paintings:

This is a series called Crazy Daze.  They are 12″ X 12″ X 1.5 each • Acrylic/MM on Canvas.

Artists Need Feedback! Are you giving artists some feedback? And if not, why not? I would be interested in your views on my work and ideas.  Don’t worry…you won’t hurt my feelings and I rely on YOU.

Thank your for your continued support and while you are here, if you would add your name to my mailing list so I can keep you informed, I would greatly appreciate it.

Women’s Issues: An Artist’s View – Let Your VOICE Be Heard!

I have been a women’s activist since the early 70’s for Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood so 2 years ago when the GOP won the majority in the house and started out immediately trying to legislate what women could decide to do about their health problems, I became very agitated.  As the months rolled by and they failed to raise any issues about the state of our economy, but instead focused on women’s bodies, I didn’t know what to do to wake up my sisters of today to the problems of these issues that I follow so closely.  I was fearful that they might be unaware of the legislation that the GOP was trying to get through Congress.
Contraceptives, Personhood, Abortion, Equal Pay for Equal Work!  Where is this coming from and why are they focusing on women’s issues, most that have already been fought and won, when our country is in need of bipartisan action?  I want to inspire women to speak up for their rights.  I don’t believe this fight is about whether you believe in abortion or not but whether government has the right to legislate our bodies and what choices we make for our own health decisions.  These are personal decisions and each woman has to live with their own decisions.  Also, on June 5, Congress (GOP) voted NO for the Fair Pay Act, Equal Pay for Equal Work for Women.  Need I say more!
I am an fine artist and professional illustrator and have painted other political paintings to bring clarity to subjects near and dear to my heart and ones that I feel are very important to expose to the American public.  It helps me work out my frustrations and seems like the way that I can do something to give back to society and give voice to the issues. I am always surprised that more artists don’t use that voice in their paintings or art but it works for me.  Art is about expressing oneself and as an artist I feel obligated to do that through my art.  It is who I am.
I started a series of paintings called, “I Am Woman, I Can Fly” and I have finished 2 paintings in the series but have plans for 4 more.  I use live, flying objects such as birds, butterflies, etc., to represent women overcoming the obstacles of society and soaring above them to succeed in their endeavors.
Several weeks ago I decided to make the 2 images into posters for when the DNC comes to town (I live in Charlotte, NC) because the issue is so hot right now and it is always hot topic with me.  They can be purchased locally at Boulevard on South End, Ruby’s Gift in NODA, and the Charlotte Art League.  You can also order them from my website:  American Kestrel Bird and Butterfly.  There are greeting cards of these 2 images as well.
The 2 original paintings, “I Am Woman, I Can Fly – American Kestrel Bird” and “I Am Woman, I Can Fly – Butterfly” will be exhibited in the “Art of Politics” Exhibition at the Andre Christine Gallery, September 15-October 6 and posters will also be available there for sale.  I will have 2 other political paintings in that exhibit as well.
I hope that I can inspire you to speak out on this subject to your friends and families and anyone else who will listen because, women, we need to be heard!  Males, females, grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sons, and daughters; we all come from the same place.  Give respect to women to make their own decisions.  They have already earned that right.
